Boone To Receive New Flood Gauges (2018-08-17 15:54:38)

Boone has been selected as one of many locations in North Carolina for new flood gauges.

North Carolina Emergency Management will help deploy and test three prototype, low-cost flood sensors, designed to help bring early flood detection and warning to more communities. The gauges have radar, ultrasonic and pressure transducer measurement technologies.

A total of 75 early warning flood sensors will be deployed in the state this month. Each sensor is expected to cost less than $1,000. Boone flood gauge locations will include Appalachian State University, the Boone Mall, Leola Street and two locations on Winklers Creek.

The sensors will remain in place for a period of six months while they are evaluated.
