Sydnor Excelling Professionally in Denmark (2016-12-09 22:21:39)

BOONE, N.C. - Former Appalachian State University women’s basketball standout Maryah Sydnor is having a stellar season in her first campaign with the Horsholm 79ers of the Dame Ligaen League in Denmark.

Sydnor has bounced back nicely with the 79ers after suffering a knee injury with her first team in Finland. The program’s third all-time leading scorer has helped Horsholm boast a 6-1 mark in its first seven games and a second-place standing in the league. Sydnor leads the team averaging nearly a double-double, putting in 15.3 points and 9.7 rebounds per game while shooting 48.6 percent from the field and 80.6 percent from the charity stripe.

The former Mountaineer is ranked eighth in the league in scoring, fifth in rebounding, sixth in efficiency (16.9) and plus/minus (plus-8). Through the first seven games of the season, Sydnor has scored in double-figures in all seven games while recording three double-doubles. Her best performance of the young season came in a dominating 20-point, 15-rebound performance while shooting 72.7 percent from the floor (8-11) and 80 percent from the line.

Sydnor and the 79ers are in the midst of a four-game win streak and will go for their fifth straight win against BK Amager on Wednesday, Dec. 17th

The Radford, Va., native went down in App history as one of the top players of all-time, as she amassed 1,821 points over her college career, ranking third in the App State record books for total career points. She also ranks among App’s top-ten lists in free throws (second), field goals (fourth), rebounds (fifth) and steals (tied for seventh).
